Standard Artificial Grass Roll Widths

Most artificial grass is manufactured and shipped in rolls. We supply two standard widths:

• 2 meters (6.5 ft): Easy to handle and transport. A good fit for narrow areas, pathways, balconies and rooftop projects.
• 4 meters (13 ft): Well suited to landscaping and commercial projects. Wider rolls mean fewer seams, faster installation and less labor.

Both widths can be ordered together, which is practical for distributors and contractors serving different types of projects and can also help make better use of container space. Additionally, North American buyers may also work with 12 ft or 15 ft widths. If your market follows a different standard, let us know when you inquire, and we will advise what we can supply.

Standard Artificial Grass Roll Lengths

Our standard roll length is 20 m or 25 m, depending on the product. Length is usually the more flexible dimension, because rolls can be cut to length after tufting.

A longer roll covers a longer run in one piece and reduces cutting waste on large projects, but it is also heavier. When we help you choose a length, we look at three things:

1. Project layout: Can the roll be laid in one continuous run? If the longest run on site is 24 m, a 25 m roll covers it in one piece, while 20 m rolls would force a join.
2. Handling: Can your crew move the roll safely without lifting equipment?
3. Container efficiency: Does the roll diameter and length make good use of container space?

Sizes are nominal. Small tolerances in width and length are normal in manufacturing, and we state the accepted tolerance range in every quotation. Available lengths can also vary by product line, so please confirm them for the series you have in mind.

Can Artificial Grass Be Supplied in Other Widths?

Other widths may be possible for specific products or projects, depending on production requirements. If your project requires a specific roll width, please contact MightyGrass immediately to confirm. Not all product lines offer the full range of technically feasible widths.

How Roll Width Affects Seams and Installation Cost

Every seam takes time, adhesive and joining tape, and every seam is a possible visual weak point. Wider rolls mean fewer seams, so on large areas a 4 m roll usually lowers installation labor compared with a 2 m roll.

A simple example shows the difference. An area 8 m wide and 25 m long needs two lanes of 4 m rolls, which means one 25 m seam. The same area with 2 m rolls needs four lanes and three seams, a total of 75 m of seam. That is three times the joining work, and three times the number of places where a join could be visible.

Wider is not always better, though. A 4 m roll is heavier and harder to carry through a narrow gate, a corridor or onto a rooftop. Narrow rolls are easier to move and suit irregular or small layouts. Many of our contractor customers keep both widths and make a selection based on the specific requirements of the project.

Specifications to Confirm Alongside Size

Size alone does not define a product. Before you place a bulk order with us or any supplier, make sure these specifications are confirmed in writing:

• Pile height: The length of the grass blades, usually between 10 mm and 60 mm depending on application. It also affects roll diameter and weight.
• Face weight: The weight of yarn per square meter, a key indicator of density and durability.
• Stitch rate and gauge: How closely the yarn is tufted, which affects density, durability and appearance.
• Yarn material and shape: Polyethylene, polypropylene or nylon, and the blade profile, which affect softness, resilience and durability.
• Backing type: Primary and secondary backing, such as latex or polyurethane, which affect dimensional stability and drainage.
• Total weight: Needed for freight calculation and handling planning.
• UV and weather resistance: Test standards and warranty terms for outdoor use.

Additionally, depending on your specific application scenario, you may also need to confirm fire performance, surface temperature reduction, antistatic properties, or antimicrobial and mold resistance. These features may require specific product formulations and testing, so confirm availability and supporting documentation before ordering.

Choosing Artificial Grass Size by Project Type

Container Loading: Planning Your Order Volume

The container loading process directly determines how the dimensions of the artificial grass rolls translate into shipping costs. Typically, the rolls are loaded with their width aligned along the length of the container, stacked in rows that span the 2.35-meter interior width. Different roll widths can be combined to make efficient use of the available container space. These are the loading plans we recommend:

• Mixed widths can share a container: A 4 m + 2 m + 2 m + 4 m plan lets one 40HQ carry both widths, which helps when you serve different project types or want to test several products.
• Pile height changes capacity: Taller, denser grass makes a thicker, heavier roll, so fewer square meters fit in the same container.
• Weight can be the limit: A 20GP or 40HQ container may reach its weight limit before it is full by volume, especially with heavy or high-density products.
• Non-standard widths need confirmation: The 3.66 m, 4.58 m and 2.29 m combinations apply only where those widths are available for your chosen product.

The plans are sketches, not guarantees. As a rule of thumb, total container capacity (m²) is the number of rolls that fit multiplied by the area per roll. Because the roll count varies by series, we do not rely on generic numbers: we provide container loading quantities for your chosen product at the quotation stage.

To estimate the weight of a roll, multiply its area by the product’s total weight per square meter. For example, an artificial grass roll measuring 4 m × 25 m covers 100 m². If the turf weighs 2.5 kg/m², the roll weighs approximately 250 kg, excluding packaging.

How many square meters fit in a 40HQ container? 

This depends on the pile height, backing material, and roll dimensions of the artificial turf you select. When you request a quote, we will provide the container loading specifications for the specific turf products you require.

What Is the Longest Artificial Grass Roll?

The maximum length of an artificial grass roll depends on the product specifications, roll width, pile height, backing structure, and transportation requirements. Standard roll lengths are commonly 20 or 25 meters, while longer rolls may be available for certain products and orders.
